Etsy Shop Closed: The Rest of the Story!

A year ago, I posted that I was closing my Etsy Shop. Well, one thing lead to another and I started getting several orders a week, and so I decided to keep it open a bit longer. A year later, I have had more than 200 sales on my Etsy shop and have followed all the rules and policies to a tee. Just the other day, about a week ago, I received notice from Etsy about a Copyright Violation. This violation had been handled more than a year ago and I had again, followed the rules and removed the copyrighted material from my stock and stopped selling it. I had been approached by the lawyers representing the company of which I had used their logo without the proper permission. I had misread the guidelines and thus, the violation occurred! Anyway, Etsy decides to step in, more than a year later and ding me with this Copyright Violation, same one that had already been handled, and removed items from my shop that they deemed fit this issue (which none of them did since I had already removed the offending material), and gave me a slap on the hand and said if I had one more copyright ding, I would lose not only my Star Seller Status (which I just got for the first time) but that they would close my shop down without notice. For almost two years, I have had my shop open, paid all of their fees, even the ones that felt were unnecessary, and again, followed the rules and policies. So, again, I am now going to close my Etsy shop down, by December 31st, 2024. I am moving everything to this domain, https://delphidecals.com, which I had setup LAST time and this time, will go through with it. I am done with Etsy and their constant changing of the rules and policies and go it on my own. I know that I am losing some marketing doing this, however, every sale has my business card, with all of my information, so they will be able to find me easy enough. I will be posting a notice on my Etsy shop within the next few days making this announcement, to prepare my followers and customers of the impending change. Site Renovations

Recently, we decided to give our site a complete makeover! While doing this, we discovered some of our products were listed wrong or didn’t work. If you encountered one of these scenarios, please contact us and we will give you a coupon for a discount on your next purchase. We are almost half way through our inventory and we will be adding new items along the way. Our goal here is to try and add new designs every month to not only grow our inventory, but to give you a larger selection to choose from! Once we get the site remodel complete, we will start running some sales and give you even more bang for your buck! We are still in the process of closing our Etsy shop and are wanting to get our site all up and running before our closing day. Again, check back often and watch us grow! Etsy Shop Closing

One year ago this month, we set out on an adventure to open an Etsy Shop to sell our decals. At the time, it seemed like a good thing to do, so we put our domain on a redirect to allow visitors to go straight to our Etsy Shop and not to our own web site. Recently, we were looking at our sales on Etsy, and even though we sold more than 100 decals in the past year, our sales figures were not enough for us to keep pursuing this venture. Etsy has a number of fees and charges that a seller must pay in order to put product online for sale, fees for advertising, fees for selling something, shipping and sales tax fees, and well, you see what’s going on here. In any event, even though we “made” lots of good sales and “made” a profit, the bottom line was, we didn’t even break even! The Etsy Shop is showing a tremendous loss in it’s first year. It took us a couple of months at the beginning, to even make our first sale and then after the Etsy Fees, materials and inventory purchased, not to mention the equipment for making the decals…it will take us several years before we start to see any real profits here and start to actually make money. So, that being said, we are closing the Etsy Shop and moving everything to our domain and web site. This way, we can make a few sales, eliminate the Etsy fees and we will see more profit quicker. Don’t get me wrong! Etsy was a great platform to springboard us out on our own. It may take some time before we get our feet wet here, but we can weather the storm a lot easier out on our own. Enjoy our new site and we should have the inventory completed soon. We have more than 75% of our inventory on line and ready to go. Thank you for hanging in there with us!

Some decals have been removed

A couple of days ago, I was contacted by the ARRL, the Amateur Radio Relay League, about using their logo without permission. I was mistaken when I designed those decals, that I had permission to use the logo for my decals. It turns out that when I thought I had the permission, I really didn’t have the right permission. In any event, they pointed out the error of my ways and I was asked to remove the decals from my inventory and discontinue using their logo. It turned out that I had 13 decals using their logo, and I have removed them as requested. I will be redesigning more decals to replace these. I have already put 4 into my inventory, so just a few more to go!

New Category: Holiday Themed

We now have a new category called Holiday Themed! We are starting out this new category with a Halloween Themed decals featuring Jack-O-Lanterns. We will offer these Holiday Themed decals for a limited time until the Holiday is over and then will feature the next Holiday to come up! Look for more Holiday specific decals to come!

Closing our eBay Store

The decision was made to close down our eBay Store due to the lack of sales! We have had the store open for the past few months and we only sold 3 decals. To keep the store open, we had to pay $7.95 each month. When you look at our sales, we barely broke even (we had one refund in there as well, but that’s another story!) and there wasn’t enough justification to keep it going. In any event, all of our postings, thankfully, will remain, so our decals will still remain for sale and available, Out Etsy Store will still be going strong, so if you are looking for updated listings, be sure to check out our Etsy Store!

Delphi Decals Marketplaces on Etsy and Spreadshirt

Delphi Decals started as a small, at home business. Making decals for friends and family and not making a lot of money (because we were giving it away!). Then, due to health reasons, I was forced to retire, and between my retirement income and my social security, well, let’s just say it’s not much! We decided to setup Delphi Decals Marketplaces on Etsy and Spreadshirt. The idea came to setup an online ecommerce store and take it from there. We started with our web site at http://delphidecals.com and set it up to sell a few decal designs. We had a dozen or designs, but not much traffic. Then came Etsy! Our Etsy Store at https://delphidecals.etsy.com was setup and in March 2023, we began with around 20 designs. It took a couple of months before we got our first sale! Fast forward 6 months and we now have close to 100 designs and more than 40 sales under our belt! We then added a Print On Demand feature to our store that features t-shirts, hoodies, polos, hats and more. Our Etsy Store features some of these Print On Demand items. We setup a new Print On Demand store at SpreadShirt. You can visit https://delphidecals.myspreadshop.com/ to see a wide range of products. We will be adding more every week. Being on two Marketplaces, Etsy and Spreadshirt has fulfilled this for us! At Delphi Decals we carry a variety of decals for the Amateur Radio/Skywarn market. This is our top category and one that seen the most sales from our Etsy Store. We also carry Military, Christian, CPR and other niche decals. We also offer custom made to order decals, just simply give us your request and we will make them for you! Being an Amateur Radio Enthusiast myself, this is the main reason I chose this niche market to serve for my decals. I will be adding more decals every week. We are currently adding All 50 States as a Ham Radio/Amateur Radio decal. If you are an enthusiast, be sure to check them out!

Skywarn Storm Spotter

At Delphi Decals, we feature a wide range of Skywarn logo decals. The National Weather Service has the Skywarn program for severe weather storm spotters, using amateur radio, cell phone and Internet to report bad weather. These storm spotters are trained and certified by The National Weather Service and this is one reason we offer these decals. The National Weather Service has the Skywarn Logo as a registered trade mark. For this reason, you will find on all of our descriptions, “Skywarn® and the Skywarn® logo are registered trademarks of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, used with permission.” The NWS allows their Skywarn logo to be used on decals, t-shirts, mugs, etc.to allow storm spotters to let the public know that they are volunteering to the NWS to do the storm spotting. As a Certified Skywarn Storm Spotter myself, I found it difficult to find decals like these, so when I started producing decals, Skywarn was first and foremost in my production. Some of my Skywarn Decals are my own design, while others are accepted decals. If you are a Skywarn Storm Spotter and looking for these type of decals, you have come to the right place!
